Where do we download the MPASM Assembler from? Cuz PICusb and MPLAB both take in HEX files and apparently all the mnemonics in the textbook and whatnot are converted into HEX using this assembler right?

MPLAB should give you the option, when you're building a project, to use the MPASM Assembler. You can write .asm files into MPLAB and compile them to get a hex file. Putting a HEX file into MPLAB is more like importing a project than anything else.
If you have a mac should be already installed. Also you don't need to worry about hex files. One click on the mplab ide download button and it downloads automatically to the board for macs.
I'm not using my mac cuz most of the software doesn't work on it. But thankss! so its just basically integrated into MPLAB then?
Not exactly sure, I just know when I tried to download the complete installation package or whatever in lab, it wouldn't let me and professor Emami told me that some stuff just isnt' compatible with Macs or Linux and to use a virtual box but I did that last term and it was such a pain in my ass so I borrowed my moms laptop lol
I totally could be wrong, I just didnt wanna deal with any hassle down the line. Maybe ask the professor but if everything works for you than great
