This morning, Jenny, Cassie, Kristine and myself missioned down to Solway to go check out the kind of scrap metal we would be able to work with (in time for our practical sessions on monday and tuesday).
Though I was expecting the building to look like it did (it is a scrap metal place) it was not Home Depot like (by any means :P) and so the sketchiness could be surprising to some. I definitely recommend going in a group, as it is quite a walk from dundas west station, and having people with you makes the experience more funny than scary.
When we got there, we took a long look around before finding some bins that looked promising. The people there were very friendly, and once we realised we were allowed to dive right in an search around, that's exactly what we did :D What an awesome experience.
Not only did we get enough aluminium for all of us to make our bases, splitting the cost with 4 teams brought the grand total to.....*drum roll* 5 bucks each. How can you beat that!
Sisterhood of the Travelling Mech's
Of course, we had to carry it all the way back, amidst both confused, amused and slightly frightened glances from people on the street and subway. All in all a successful morning :D.

It's also worth noting that besides the dumpster diving, Solway also has new aluminum L-brackets, C-brackets, etc. You have to buy these at longer lengths though, but it's easier to find the exact dimensions you are looking for.
lols fixed. thanks for the tip - sorry bout that haha
way to spell my name wrong bud :P
